World Heritage Sites around the world

Today there are 1199 World Heritage Sites around the world, the vast majority cultural heritage sites. Many environments are famous sights such as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, Macchu Picchu, and the Taj Mahal.

But the history of humanity has not only created beautiful monuments. It is important to remember the darker parts of history as well. So, for example, the remains of the concentration camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau and the prison on Robben Island in South Africa are on the World Heritage List.
